wrenb | Wooly tights!

I love wearing opaque tights rather than pantyhose. I have two favorite outfits this winter that call for grey or black tights. Unfortunately due to my long legs and round-belly shape I am really hard on tights. I usually buy them at Target or Kohls, but they don't last much longer than pantyhose -- I put a toe right through.

Today's black tights are on their last wearing. My big toe was poking through as I switched from boots to shoes at the office this morning. And my toes are cold. So I started looking online for wool tights. Vermont Country Store (my go-to site for old-fashioned things) wanted $36 for one pair. Lands End have cotton tights but no wool ones. And then I found Warm Legwear. I bought a pair of merino tights and two pairs of warm dress socks (one wool, one acrylic) that are all made in the USA and Canada. Free shipping, and the socks are half the price of my usual Smart Wool dress socks.

Next fall or perhaps in the spring I should buy some more cotton tights. They've got some with reinforced toes! My thought is that if I post this now, I might be able to remember where I bought them next time.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for the link. I too wear tights a lot -- like, um, daily from November to April. I also end up with a lot of holes in the toe and heel; I think it's more from regular/heavy use than body shape (especially since it happens no matter what size or stretchiness I use).

I really like what we call "woolly tights" but usually end up stuck with baggy cotton ones. So, the site should give me some options :-)

Meant to add, I've been trying to remember to wear socks over those holey tights. When I was working in an office, I used to stash a couple of pairs of socks in my desk drawer JIC.

(It's not so bad for me at work since no one's going to see my toes, but it's a little embarrassing if I visit someone's home, take off my footwear and have holes.)

I envy your ability to do this. When I get a hole in my tights, it's right over the big toe and cuts off circulation to said appendage. I've tried cutting the toes out, like a thong, but that hurt too. So into the bin they go.
